Georgia Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help Program Information

Medicare changes a little each year, and unfortunately healthcare costs are rising. However, there are several existing official state-based and national savings programs specifically designed to help specific qualifying individuals save money on Medicare Part A and/or B costs, as well as Part D costs.


As an independent life and health insurance agency, our goal is simply to make these updates easier to understand so you can feel confident about your costs and have access to savings programs designed for those on low-incomes.


Below, you’ll find clear tables outlining the 2026 Medicare Part A and Part B costs, assistance program income limits, and trusted national and Georgia‑based Medicare resources. These charts speak for themselves, but our goal is to help you get all the information you need about MSPs and Extra Help in one concise location.


If you ever have questions about deductibles, premiums, or other out of pocket costs, we are here to help. Please bear in mind though that for other state based programs like QMB, SLMB, QI, QDWI, or Extra Help its best to talk to those programs directly to start the application process to see if you qualify first.

To help break down the information from these slides, we’ve included a short glossary of the terms and abbreviations:


Glossary of Terms & Abbreviations


  • Part A — Medicare Hospital Insurance. Covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, some home health, and hospice.

  • Part B — Medicare Medical Insurance. Covers doctors’ visits, outpatient care, durable medical equipment (DME), and home health.

  • Deductible — The amount you pay out‑of‑pocket before Medicare begins paying.

  • Coinsurance — Your share of the cost after the deductible is met (for Part B, this is 20% of the approved amount).

  • Premium — The monthly amount you pay for Medicare coverage.

  • Benefit Period — For Part A, this begins when you enter the hospital and ends when you’ve been out for 60 days.

  • SNF — Skilled Nursing Facility (a licensed healthcare center that provides 24hr medical and rehab care for patients who need more care than is possible at home).

  • QMB — Qualified Medicare Beneficiary   Helps pay Part A & B premiums, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance.

  • SLMB — Specified Low‑Income Medicare Beneficiary   Helps pay the Part B premium only.

  • QI — Qualifying Individual   Helps pay the Part B premium; limited slots due to more limited funding and must reapply annually.

  • QDWI — Qualified Disabled and Working Individual  Helps pay the Part A premium for those under age 65 with a disability or for those who have lost free Part A by re-entering the workforce.

  • LIS / Extra Help — Low Income Subsidy   Reduces Part D prescription drug costs.

  • DME — Durable Medical Equipment  (long-lasting medical devices like walkers, oxygen-assistance equipment, wheelchairs, and more).
